Takht Sri Patna Sahib

Takht Sri Patna Sahib or  Harmandir Sahib is one of the most sacred places for Shikh religion as Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru was born here  on December 22, 1666. The Gurdwara Patna Sahib is at the same place where Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born.

It was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1780-1839), the first Maharaja of the Sikh Empire, who also built many other Gurdwaras in the Indian subcontinent. The current shrine of Patna Sahib or Takht Sri Harmandirji Saheb was built in the 1950s.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji spent his early years here before moving to Anandpur,Panjab succeeding his father as the next Sikh Guru and established Khalsa Panth.

Takht Sri Patna Sahib or  Harmandir Sahib is one of the only five Takhats or Seats of Authority of the Sikhs.

The other four Sikh Takhats are:

•Takhat Keshghar Sahib in Anandpur Sahib (Birthplace of the Khalsa)
•Takhat Damdama Sahib (in Batinda district of Panjab)
•Takhat Sachkhand in Hazur Sahib (the place where Guru Gobind Singh took his last breath)
